Welcome to StreetDance Australia's Free Online Books. In the months ahead we plan to grow our collection of articles, so keep coming back to see what is new! For your pleasure and entertainment we now have articles on the Background & Evolution of the major Latin dances, Tips on dance Technique and Timing, Descriptions of the Basic Steps and Choreography, and a lot more!

Background & Evolution Did you know that Mambo, Cha Cha and Salsa share a common heritage? What about Merengue and Samba - how did they evolve?

Timing & Basic Steps Do you want to learn the Basic Steps for Mambo, Salsa, Cha Cha, Samba and/or Merengue?

Choreography Want to learn some basic choreography that is common to Mambo, Salsa and Cha Cha? Want to learn some Samba or Merengue moves?

Latin Dance Technique. In this section we discuss the isometrics of your body movements and steps. Correct posture, hip movements and holds. We also give you some Tips and Tricks to help you on the dance floor and introduce you to the Native African Rumba which is an ancestor of Salsa.

Origins of Salsa. Musically, Salsa has its roots firmly based in the Afro-Spanish musical traditions of Cuba but its worldwide popularity should be attributed to the Puerto Ricans of New York!

Living History. This section is a collection of stories by real people who have lived with the evolution of the dances. Other articles in this series are by real dancers who relate how, through merged dance styles and change in music, the dances continue to evolve.

Samba! You haven't experienced the joy and freedom of dance, until you have learned to Samba. There are several Sambas. To read our free online book and learn about them click on Samba!

Merengue! The easiest dance on the planet to learn! Not only is it great fun but it is a great way to practice the harder Salsa moves. It is Salsa's sister dance and although the music and footwork is different they have links in history and use the same body work (moves). To find out about it click on Merengue.

Knowing your body! Serious dancers, do suffer injuries from time to time. This section helps you to understand the strains you place on your body while dancing and gives you hints on how to avoid injury. This information aims to make you a healthy and better than average dancer.

Livin' La Vida Loca! Living the life of a dancer can be a crazy life. Strange and unexpected things often happen. In my case I fell in love! How did I know it was the real thing? Read about it!
